Adult ADHD Assessments-

This service provides diagnostic assessment only,  which meets NICE guidelines, with the option for a follow up appointment forpsychological support following ADHD diagnosis and personalised recommendations for work/education letter provided, if appropriate.  ADHD focussed CBT can also be provided. NICE recommends that environmental modifications are implemented.

Step 1: Complete pre-assessment questionnaires and forms which are reviewed by Dr Younge to determine if comprehensive ADHD assessment is clinically appropriate. If considered appropriate, you will be invited to make an appointment for a full clinical ADHD assessment- step 2.

This service is designed to help you make an informed decision before committing to the full clinical assessment process. Completion of the pre-assessment does not guarantee that full assessment will be recommended or a diagnosis of ADHD made. If full clinical assessment is not recommended, this will be explained and next steps signposted.

Step 2: Full clinical assessment with DIVA-5 structred clinical interview and consideration of differential diagnosis followed by a clinical report within 2 weeks. If ADHD is not diagnosed, there will be a formulation of the likely cause of your difficulties and sign-posting/recommendations Getting this right is important as other conditions can cause symptoms that can look like ADHD e.g. sleep disorders. A lot of people report getting a diagnosis helps make sense of their difficulties and enables strategies to be put in place in work/at home to help.

N.B. ADHD medication is not prescribed- initiated, titrated or monitored. A diagnosis does not guarantee acceptance for medication or shared care prescribing by another healthcare provider. Any subsequent treatment, prescribing and monitoring are the responsibility of the clinician accepting care. Most N.I. GPs will only accept shared care with NHS services.
